There could be no better illustration of coexistence than the extensive history of religious sites shared by members of different beliefs and backgrounds. Chronicles of the three Abrahamic religions are full of examples of cohabitation, hospitality, and tolerance despite a world torn apart by cultural, ethnic, and spiritual struggles. Maps of the Mediterranean and Near East are strewn with shrines that have long been the sites of convergence for prayers, wishes, and contemplation, yet their origins of sharing differ. Often local populations perceive a benefit of another group's sacred space, either recognized by open-minded leaders who preach unity or by members of different religious groups who share said space for pragmatic reasons. Our contemporary world contains numerous cases of such crossings, many of which are documented in this catalogue. Shared Sacred Sites is published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition, which was organized as a contemporary |pilgrimage| in Manhattan through three venues. At The New York Public Library, the exhibition shares the history of the Holy Land with a look at Jerusalem as both holy city and center of pilgrimage for three faiths. The Morgan Library & Museum brings an altogether different aspect of the story of coexistence in a display of the celebrated Morgan Picture Bible produced in Paris around 1250, which offers the most exquisite visualizations of the events of the Old Testament. The Graduate Center of The City University of New York gathers contemporary examples compiled by an international team with various explorations and experiences in sanctuaries, presenting a medley of artifacts, contemporary art, multimedia, and photographs.

Uriel's Machine PDF By:Christopher Knight,Robert Lomas Published on 2012-01-31 by Random House * What is the standard view of history is completely wrong? * What if science and writing developed from an advanced prehistoric civilisation in the British Isles? * What is written evidence in the Dead Sea Scrolls records megalithic history and provides the plans for a machine that could rebuild civilisation following a global catastrophe? * And what if Jesus and his brother James were practitioners of megalithic astronomy? In URIEL'S MACHINE Knight & Lomas offer powerful new evidence that our planet was hit by seven mountain-sized lumps of comet, creating a series of giant waves that ripped across the globe. Putting together the latest findings of leading geologists with their own sensational new archaeological discoveries, they show how a civilisation emerged and was able to build an international network of sophisticated astronomical observatories which provided accurate calen...

The English Connection PDF Free

The English Connection PDF By:Bryan W. Ball Published on 2014-09-30 by James Clarke & Co |Seventeenth-century England was a confused world of conflicting religious thought, made more complex by the tumultuous events of the English Civil Wars and the Interregnum under Oliver Cromwell. Puritanism, a thoroughly Protestant off shoot of the Reformation in England, was to take centre stage in these years, coming to prominence as a direct result of the conflict that would see the execution of an English king. It is argued in 'The English Connection' that Seventh-day Adventism, established over two centuries later in nineteenth-century America, can trace its roots back to this distinct form of seventeenth-century English Puritanism. Dr. Ball explores the connection between Puritanism and Seventh-day Adventism by examining doctrinal tenets adopted in England, such as Gospel obedience and the suffi ciency of Scripture. In this way, he dexterously proves the continuity and cohesion of...

How to Be an Adult in Relationships PDF Free

How to Be an Adult in Relationships PDF By:David Richo Published on 2002-06-18 by Shambhala Publications |Most people think of love as a feeling,| says David Richo, |but love is not so much a feeling as a way of being present.| In this book, Richo offers a fresh perspective on love and relationships—one that focuses not on finding an ideal mate, but on becoming a more loving and realistic person. Drawing on the Buddhist concept of mindfulness, How to Be an Adult in Relationships explores five hallmarks of mindful loving and how they play a key role in our relationships throughout life: 1. Attention to the present moment; observing, listening, and noticing all the feelings at play in our relationships. 2. Acceptance of ourselves and others just as we are. 3. Appreciation of all our gifts, our limits, our longings, and our poignant human predicament. 4. Affection shown through holding and touching in respectful ways. 5. Allowing life and love to be just as they are, with all their ecstas...
